I began working on No Limits purely for fun because I am interested in rollercoaster design. I started designing coasters in other programs like the games Rollercoaster Tycoon or Planet Coaster, but while looking for more realistic programs, I found No Limits and quickly started using the program. I have since challenged myself to make a variety of different rides, from family coasters to extreme thrill rides. It has become somewhat of a pastime for me where I will draw out a fun layout and then make it in No limits or even just start from scratch and see where my mind takes me until the ride is done. After designing all my coasters by hand for a while, I wanted to create smoother rides and found force-vector design programs. I learned the program FVD++ which could export to No Limits 2 and is easier for me to use since it gave me more control over forces on riders. For that reason, it quickly became the default program I would go to for coaster design. I still make a coaster or two when I have the time, but here is a collection of some of my best creations.
No Limits Designs
Mario's Flight - Inverted Coaster
Mario's Flight is a coaster that I created for my presentation to Drexel TPED to introduce No Limits to members who may have not heard of the program. With this coaster, I focused on the pacing, trying to create a coaster with a graceful beginning that slowly becomes more fast paced and intense as the ride goes on. The pacing already made the ride a bit more intense, but I also tried to include high g-force sections and low-to-the-ground elements to push the thrill further.
Flying Dutchman - Multi-Launch Coaster
Flying Dutchman is my most recent design. I created this coaster as a challenge to myself to create a launch coaster with 3 launches and at least 3 inversions. The biggest challenge was to maintain the pacing throughout the ride. I also tried to design the ride for a large throughput. To do this, I included separate loading and unloading platforms, additional block zones in the final brakes, and placed the transfer track in between the loading and unloading zones to allow for at least five trains to be operated at once.
Gauntlet - Hybrid Coaster
Gauntlet, is a coaster that I created with force-vector design in FVD++, and was my first attempt at using the new design program. This coaster is designed to be short yet thrilling, and fit within a relatively thin plot of land. To make the ride more thrilling, I focused mainly on ejector airtime, which I saw to be common on this type of coaster, and some inversions to provide variety within the ride. I also wanted to make this coaster to be as realistic as possible so I added surrounding scenery and queue lines to add to the presentation of realism.
Dragonfly - Family Flying Coaster
Dragonfly is a coaster that I designed as a moderate thrill for families to experience the feeling of being in flight. This was one of my first No Limits creations that I built by hand rather than using FVD++. The majority of the ride is close to the ground mimicking a dragonfly hovering over the ground. I focused on making the coaster exciting without introducing too many thrilling elements that may scare off families with smaller kids.
